Wheeeeeeere’s the beef?

Remember the “Where’s The Beef?” commercial?  If it is just me, then I am clearly dating myself…but I digress….

In a previous post, I mentioned that I was not raised on beef.  Truly, I have not.  I have only had 2 bites of steak in my life and there was a period of time when I was little, that I did eat McDonald’s cheeseburgers and Whopper Jrs.  But I can assure you that since the age of 10, I have not eaten cattle.  Why?

My parents were hippies.  They are still in their own special ways, but really, they have assimilated nicely with society now that everyone is on the eco-friendly bandwagon.  Anyway, they were vegetarians before I was born and went back to eating chicken and fish when I was born.  Somewhere along the way, pork was introduced into the diet again.  But never beef.

Since this is the case, I have not acquired a taste for it.  When I would tell boys about this, they would always say “Really?  I am going to get you to eat a steak!”  They never did.  It would’ve been a waste of their money.  Of the two times I had a bite of steak (one of which was at a very well-established, swanky steakhouse that carnivores rave about), I thought the texture was tough and chewy and the taste just did not jive with me.  Not a fan.

I don’t feel like I am missing out on anything.  I do wonder if I really am doing my body a world of good by not eating it, like some expects think.  I wonder if I am at risk of being anemic, like other experts think.  I don’t know and I really don’t care.

You don’t become obese by being concerned with these things.  You are all about the taste and if it does not taste good, then why bother?
